Basic Life Support

This ½ Day Basic Life Support is a short and concise training programme that focuses on initial, time critical care for life threatening situations including dealing with someone who has stopped breathing, is choking or has become unconscious. Dealing with severe bleeding can be added to the syllabus dependant on requirements. Information will also be presented on the Chain of Survival concept to identify how prompt, effective actions will greatly increase the chance of survival. This Basic Life Support training meets with the minimum training recommendations an ‘Appointed Person’ in the workplace as detailed in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L74.

Course Content includes:

  • Importance of self-protection and use of barriers
  • Chain of Survival
  • Primary Survey
  • Unconscious Casualties and Recovery Position
  • Adult CPR
  • Dealing with Choking
  • Basic Bleeding Control (optional)
  • Fire prevention
  • Actions in the event of a fire
  • Practical use of fire extinguishers

Basic Life Support with AED

Emergency First Aid at Work

The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and consists of 6 hours (1 Day) of instructor led tuition with the emphasis on practical application of first aid skills.The content covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient. Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition and treatment of a person in seizure.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking.
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

Emergency First Aid at Work for Schools

This specially designed course has been adapted from the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course to meet the needs of people who work within a school setting. The syllabus includes all content from the 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course and includes additional subjects likely to be faced by first aiders working within a school. The core content covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition and treatment of a person in seizure.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking.
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.
  • Asthma
  • Allergic Reaction
  • Resuscitation and Choking for Children

First Aid at Work Initial (3 Days) and Refresher (2 Days)

The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and provide effective care for a wide range of common workplace injuries and illnesses. First Aid at Work training consists of 18 hours of instructor led tuition, delivered over a minimum of 3 days, with emphasis throughout on practical application of first aid skills.

Refresher Training must be completed within 3 years of original certification and is carried out over 2 days.

The course is delivered in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L74 for qualifying First Aid personnel in the workplace. Candidates will receive training in a wide range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding
  • The ability to recognise and treat a patient in shock
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work
  • Students will also learn to provide care for patients who have:
    • suffered a burn or scald
    • injured bones, muscles or joints
    • been poisoned by ingestion or inhalation of a substance or gas
    • suffered an injury to the eye
    • signs & symptoms of a major illness e.g. heart attack

Paediatric and Early Years First Aid Course (2 Days)

This 2 Day Paediatric and Early Years course is designed for people who are working, or intend to work in the childcare sector. The programme has been designed to meet with the requirements of OFSTED for Early Years First Aid Provision. Additionally the programme meets with the recommendations of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 issued by the Health & Safety Executive for the ‘Appointed Person’.

The Paediatric and Early Years First Aid can be undertaken as a blended e-learning course, saving you from committing staff for a full 2 days from work. The e-learning covers 6 hours of training which means they only need to turn up for a further 6 hours (1 day) of face-to-face training.

The course includes resuscitation skills for Adults, Infants and Children. Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • Recognition of common childhood complaints and illnesses and appropriate care.
  • Developing an effective emergency plan for when emergencies occur.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident in the workplace/care setting.
